When planning your pool, a common question we hear is, 'How long will construction take? Several factors affect the timeline
Back to adviceWe're here to help navigate these factors and ensure your pool project proceeds smoothly and efficiently."
When planning your pool, there are numerous decisions to be made, which may take some time. Here are some important factors to consider:
Your pool is a long-term investment, and choosing the right one tailored to your needs is crucial. This process can be as quick or as long as you need it to be. That’s why thorough planning is key and plays a significant role in determining the construction timeline and when you can start enjoying your new pool.
The type of pool you choose has a significant effect on how long your pool build will take. This is because construction varies hugely between fiberglass and a concrete pool.
Fiberglass pools are pre-moulded which is why they can be typically installed in under 10 days because they arrive already built. A great advantage if you are looking for a fast install.
Concrete pools give you the freedom of choice for size and shape as these are built onsite. How ever, it’s important to take into consideration when deciding that the more complex the concrete design and shape the longer it can take to build, sometimes up to 8 weeks or more.
As the weather warms and summer draws near, it's natural to begin considering swimming pools. During these busy months, pool builders receive numerous inquiries from individuals eager to start swimming in their new pool as soon as possible. To ensure you can enjoy your pool throughout the summer, it's beneficial to engage with your pool builder around June/July, or even earlier if possible.
When January and February come around, some may think it’s too late, saying 'we missed out on this summer, so there's no rush.' However, it's actually an ideal time to begin planning your pool. By starting early, you can have it installed before spring, allowing ample time for landscaping. Before you know it, summer will be here again, and your pool will be ready to enjoy at the first sign of a hot day.
Before starting construction on your new pool, it must receive approval from your local council. Once the planning phase is complete, you'll need to submit a permit application. In many cases, your pool builder can handle this process, though additional application fees may apply. The permit provides the council with details of the construction plans to ensure all safety standards are met. Processing times typically range from four to six weeks, varying slightly between councils. During the summer, when pool construction and permit submissions peak, it's wise to submit your application as early as possible.
Your pool builder is usually not the only person needed to complete your pool install. Electricians, concreters, and fencers are usually needed to complete your pool installation. When planning your project, it's helpful to consult with your pool builder as they often have trusted contractors they can recommend.
